Notifications
Omoplata sends automated notifications to your members at key moments -- when a payment fails, when onboarding is pending, when a direct debit is about to be charged, and more. Each notification uses a template that you can customize to match your club's tone and branding.
How notifications work
Notifications are triggered automatically by the system when specific events occur. For example:
- A member's SEPA direct debit charge fails
- A new member has not completed onboarding after a set period
- A membership pause is about to end
- An invoice is generated
Each notification type has a pre-defined template stored in the system. You cannot create new notification types, but you can fully customize the content of each existing template.
Notification channels
Notifications can be delivered through different channels:
- Email -- The primary delivery method. All notification templates include email support with Markdown formatting.
- SMS -- Available for select notification types when configured.
- Letter -- For clubs that need to send physical mail for certain communications.
Customizing templates
Navigate to Settings > Notifications to see the list of all available notification templates. Click on any template to open the editor.
The template editor
The editor has two sections:
- Editor -- Write or modify the notification content using Markdown. You can format text with headings, bold, italics, lists, and links.
- Preview -- See a live rendering of how the email will look to your members. The preview updates as you type in the editor.
Call-to-action buttons
Templates can include call-to-action (CTA) buttons using a special placeholder syntax:
[cta type='confirm']
When the notification is sent, these placeholders are replaced with styled buttons that link to the appropriate page. For example, a payment failure notification might include a "Update payment method" button that takes the member directly to their payment settings.
The preview shows sample CTA buttons so you can see how they will appear in the final email.
Template placeholders
Templates support dynamic placeholders that are filled with real data when the notification is sent. The exact placeholders available depend on the notification type -- for example, a payment notification might include the amount, due date, and member name.
Common notification types
Here are some of the notifications Omoplata sends automatically:
- Direct debit charge failed -- Sent when a SEPA direct debit is returned unpaid. Prompts the member to update their payment method.
- Member onboarding invitation -- Sent to new members (or their guardians) with a link to complete the onboarding process.
- Membership pause ending -- Alerts a member that their membership pause is about to end and training will resume.
- Payment reminder -- Sent before or after an invoice due date depending on your dunning configuration.
Controlling notifications
Some notifications can be toggled on or off from the billing settings. For example, the Send payment failed notification toggle in billing settings controls whether members receive an email when their payment fails.
System notifications
Certain notifications, such as onboarding invitations, are essential for the member experience and cannot be disabled. These ensure that new members can always access and complete their sign-up process.
